REGIONALE 14 | dé-fil-é

dé – fil – é | FABRIculture, Hégenheim, Regionale
1 December 2013 – 5 January 2014

curated by: Françoise Theis, Basle (CH)

The five works shown by Sibylle Feucht, are from a greater photo spread which developed during a longer stay of the artist in Johannesburg, South Africa. The photos show boundary walls which belong to the everyday life in residential districts with high crime rates. With this, mostly white estate owners isolate their private space from the public space, they shut themselves away and expel the ones who are not welcome.

The rigorousness of this measure riddled with observation cameras, barbed wire and motion sensors, is additionally exacerbated by helpless seeming ornaments and plantings. The motives formally duplicate the wall of the exhibition space, figuratively they represent the criticism of every ostracism type and they question the social consequence of such one.(Hall text of the exhibition)
